Air conitioned Tube trains unveiled in London

The first Tube trains with air conditioning were unveiled in London on Thursday. The climate controlled carriages will come into operation on the Metropolitan line from 2010, and more will be introduced on some underground lines.
Well, this is good news for users of the London underground. It can be very uncomfortable, very hot and smelly on the Tube especially during those hot summer days.

The trains will have no connecting doors between the fully open plan carriages. London underground has ordered 191 of the new seven and eight carriage trains. Tube bosses have said the open layout will ease overcrowding and also make underground travel safer because travellers will be able to see what’s happening in the next carriage. There is also greater scope for CCTV coverage throughout the train sections.

It’s unfortunate the air conditioned carriages will not be available on all London underground lines, as these carriages can not be used on the more deeper tunnels.

However the air conditioned Tube trains will be a major plus on London travel. At least travellers will be able to enjoy travelling during the hot summer days.
