My recent visit to Zimbabwe

Well, it’s so nice to be back in UK again after my journey to Zimbabwe. I was looking forward to go to Zimbabwe since I was going to see my family and friends after sometime out of the country. But I can not believe it took me 24 hours to get to Zimbabwe, our national airline, Air Zimbabwe is not best known for good time keeping. Let’s say people are now used to the delays.

I was so happy to see friends and family after a long time, but the situation in Zimbabwe today makes me so sad and angry.

It was a bad start to my journey. My flight time was supposed to be 1900hrs, but we only left Gatwick Airport at about 0030 am, a delay of over seven hours. By the time I got to Harare I was even very angry with the service offered by Air Zimbabwe.

The leg room on the plane is surely not meant for six footers like me, it was a nightmare having to be squashed for over ten hours all the way to Harare. The seats reminded me of the chicken bus to our village.

As for in-flight entertainment, it’s non-existent. I wished I had taken my ipod with me or anything else to keep me entertained. By the time I got to Harare, all I wanted was just to get out of the plane and get home to see my family. But that was not before another 1 hour waiting for our luggage.

But what I saw in Zimbabwe made me so angry, just by looking at the state of some people, you feel like crying. The inhuman conditions in which they are living, with no food, dirty tape water, raw sewage in the streets plus cholera outbreak in parts of Harare. I could not believe it was the same Harare I left a few years ago.

I will be writing more about my recent journey back home in my next post.

Hi Debo…..It’s so sad! The what has happened in Zimbabwe just shows how greedy and corrupt politicians can destroy a country.

Anyone who has been to Harare a few years ago will be shocked with it’s state today.
